How to Create a Custom Social Media Link Page in Squarespace

What is a social media link page?

A social media link page or a 'link-in-bio' page is a landing page used explicitly for your social media profile bio. Since platforms like TikTok and Instagram only allow users to have one link in their bio, this can limit your call-to-actions when driving people back to your website.

A social media link page aims to create a more effortless experience for your user and help you direct them to where you want them to go.

Social media link pages usually consist of a group of buttons linking to specific pages, featured articles/blogs/products, and social media links. It has a simple design that allows your users to efficiently find where you are telling them to go.

Why is a custom social media link page better than other link-in-bio platforms?

Compared to other link-in-bio platforms such as Linktree, Milkshake, and Bio.Link, here are some of the biggest reasons why you should create a custom social media link page for your website:

  • It will allow more freedom to keep your branding consistent

  • You aren't limited to the thing sections you can add

  • No extra cost (you are already paying for the website)

  • Analytics stay within your website

  • All direct traffic goes to your website and not a third party platform

How to create a social media link page in Squarespace:

Step 1

Create a new page in Squarespace. Name it something related to its purpose. Be sure to have the page in the left side panel's 'not linked' section (so it doesn’t show up in your main navigation).

Pro Tip: If you have multiple social media accounts with different audiences, you can create multiple pages for specific accounts with other call-to-action options.

Step 2

Adjust your page settings.

  • Customize your page slug (i.e. website.ca/link-in-bio)

  • Add a social image

  • Make sure the page is enabled

Step 3

Add the elements to your page. Make sure to keep it simple and properly optimized for mobile devices. Use the mobile/desktop toggle option at the top to compare views while you're designing.

Step 4

Once you are done designing, be sure to save the page, and don't forget to test your buttons and links!

Step 5

Add the new URL to your social media profiles and start tracking your audience traffic!

Design Tips

  • Keep this page simple! It should NOT be designed to look like the home page of a website. The purpose of this page is to make the user experience seamless and efficient.

  • Make sure the page is optimized for mobile! In most cases, your user will land on this page using their mobile device (phone or tablet). If you are unsure if the page is mobile friendly, have someone test it.

  • Design your buttons for stacking on top of one another to make it easier for users to read and to make your content look cleaner.

  • Download the Squarespace app to easily update the page, including making edits to buttons and other elements you have displayed.
